There are plenty of images of famous people getting shots to promote the COVID-19 vaccine. And then there's Mr Lordi.

Tomi Petteri Putaansuu, better known as Mr Lordi, lead singer of the Finnish metal band Lordi, received his second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Rovaniemi, Finland, on Sunday in full costume.

The event was meant to encourage vaccinations among young people in Finland, where just 35 percent of the population is fully vaccinated.

"They put a big needle in my arm, and that's exactly why I came here," Mr Lordi told Finland’s English-language news site Yle.

And the internet was sure glad he did. The image of Mr Lordi in metal monster garb went viral.

Lordi won the Eurovision Song Contest title in 2006, the only time Finland has won it.
