Four Malaysians - the Tan brothers of Mr DIY Group (M) Bhd, Westport Holding Bhd's G Gnanalingam and Greatech Technology Bhd co-founder Tan Eng Kee - made their debut in the Forbes billionaire list this year.

Brothers Tan Yu Yeh and Tan Yu Wei were valued at US$1.8 billion (RM7.43 billion) and US1.1 billion (RM4.54 billion) respectively.

The duo leads Mr DIY Group, which was listed on Bursa Malaysia on Oct 30 last year and is currently trading 245 percent higher.

Gnanalingam was estimated to have a net worth of US$1.7 billion (RM7.01 billion) while Tan Eng Kee was valued at US$1.1 billion (RM4.54 billion).

The top three positions were held by Hong Leong Group's Quek Leng Chan followed by Maxis Group's Ananda Krishnan and Public Bank's Teh Hong Piow.

There were 16 Malaysian individuals or families on the list.

Despite the economic slowdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, a record-breaking 2,755 billionaires were on the Forbes list, up 31 percent from the year before.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is the richest person on the list with a net worth of US$177 billion (RM730.3 billion) followed by Tesla's Elon Musk, LVHM's Bernard Arnault and family (US$150bil), Microsoft's Bill Gates (US$124bil) and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg (US$97 billion).
