The MPA said that in the role, Martin will focus on an expanded effort to disrupt piracy sites’ use of third party services in their operations. Martin will work with the content protection team at the MPA and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment. Her work will include developing “a global strategy for combatting and disrupting the use of intermediaries by piracy operators,” as well reaching out to such services for voluntary initiatives, the MPA said.
A focus of anti-piracy efforts has been to disrupt the flow of money and other support services to piracy sites. That has meant a focus on third parties such as web hosting and payment processors.
Martin will report to Karyn Temple, senior executive vice president and global general counsel for the MPA. Temple said that with Martin leading the efforts, “we will be able to further grow our intermediary programs to develop key voluntary initiatives on a global scale and in all parts of the world.”
Martin previously was associate general counsel and senior director of compliance solutions at BSA in Washington. She also spent five years as litigation associate at the law firm of Troutman Sanders LLP, which is now Troutman Pepper.
