Mount Etna Records 16th Eruption in Five Weeks

Mount Etna erupted for the 16th time in five weeks on the night of March 23-24, spewing lava and ash high into the air.

Local resident Giuseppe Distefano filmed this footage near his home in Catania, along Sicily’s coast near Mount Etna, as the eruption continued into the early hours of the morning.

According to an update from Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, the lava fountain ceased on the morning of March 24. Credit: Etna Walk via Storyful
