Motorists Rescued by Helicopter After Landslide Traps Group on Highway

Search and rescue helicopter crews rescued stranded motorists from the Lougheed Highway near the district of Hope in British Columbia, following a double landslide.

The Minister of Public Safety and Deputy Premier of British Columbia, Mike Farnworth said heavy search and rescue teams had been “working to reach and rescue people trapped in their cars due to the mudslides”.

Environment Canada said on Sunday that “a significant atmospheric river event is bringing copious amounts of rain to the British Columbia south coast.”

Emergency management authorities issued a flood warning for the region as the nearby Coquihalla River swelled.
