Motorist Captures Tornado Crossing Iowa Highway

A tornado swept through Conroy in central Iowa on Monday, January 16, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

Footage by Matt Krieger shows the massive funnel cloud spinning across Interstate 80, near Williamsburg, he said. “It would have hit me had I kept going,” Krieger says in the video.

The NWS warned residents to take cover as the tornado tracked north of I-80, about 3 miles east of Conroy, which is near Williamsburg. A tornado warning was also in place for parts of Benton, Linn, Johnson, and Iowa Counties, including the Cedar Rapids metro area, on Monday afternoon.

Local media citing the National Weather Service and Iowa County Sheriff’s Office said the storm blew a truck and passenger vehicle off I-80. No injuries were reported. Credit: Matt Krieger via Storyful
