Motion City Soundtrack release first new single in 10 years to coincide with “Dìdi” release
"Stop Talking" is featured in the Sundance-winning coming-of-age-dramedy from director Sean Wang.
Everything is alright: Motion City Soundtrack released their first new single in 10 years to coincide with the release of Dìdi, Sean Wang's Sundance-winning film.
"Stop Talking," out now, is featured in the closing credits of the nostalgic semi-autobiographical dramedy, centered on Izaac Wang's 13-year-old Chris, a pop punk devotee and skater, as he comes of age during the summer of 2008 in Fremont, Calif.
MCS also partnered with Focus Features to release a music video featuring clips from the film, as well as some behind-the-scenes footage from production. Dìdi also stars Hollywood vet Joan Chen; Shirley Chen; Chang Li Hua, filmmaker Sean Wang's real-life (and Oscar-nominated) grandmother; and Spike Jonze as the voice of a dead squirrel.
The film won the U.S. Dramatic Audience Award and the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Best Ensemble Cast at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
“Nostalgia in the era of internet rules," MCS vocalist and guitarist Justin Pierre said in a statement. "A clip of Sean Wang and Carlos López Estrada, producer of the film Dìdi, rocking out during our set at When We Were Young festival last year caused a domino effect, resulting in us releasing our first new song in nearly ten years."

Formed in 1997 in Minnesota, Motion City Soundtrack debuted with 2003's I Am the Movie and broke through with their second studio album, 2005's Commit This to Memory. They split in 2016, following the release of their sixth studio album Panic Stations, but staged a reunion tour in 2020. That year they released a cover of Fountains of Wayne's "A Dip in the Ocean," as part of a tribute album to the late Adam Schlesinger, but "Stop Talking" marks their first original material in a decade. They're currently recording their seventh album.
