Warmer weather is here and all the outdoor activities that come with it: alfresco dinners, evening walks, bike rides and picnics in the park. We'll be getting out of the house a lot more but we want to make sure we're as comfortable as possible — from head to toe.

Since no one knows better than a podiatrist when it comes to keeping feet healthy and happy, we consulted with NYC-based podiatrist Dr. Polina Zaydenberg on the best spring and summer shoes of the season. The doctor is board-certified by the American Board of Multiple Specialties in Podiatry, Prevention and Treatment of Diabetic Foot Wounds and in Diabetic Footwear.

Luna Low Heel Slide Sandals

Cushionaire
$30 at Amazon

These sandals boast a flexible cork footbed and supple suede insole that contours to your foot with wear.

See those adjustable straps? They're perfect for those with narrow or wide feet, so you really get a fit that's tailor-made to you. Dr. Zaydenberg says they're a great pick for people with metatarsalgia (pain and inflammation in the ball of your foot) and plantar fasciitis.

Asics Gel-Venture 8 Running Shoe

Asics
$50 $70 at Amazon

Available in both regular and wide widths, the lug outsole helps with traction — wear them on your next hike.

These ultra-cushioned Asics kicks provide excellent shock absorption, which the podiatrist loves. "The rocker bottom helps with propulsion," she explains.

New Balance Fresh Foam Sneaker

New Balance
$70 $80 at Amazon

Often seen on the feet of street style mavens and celebs, these work well beyond the gym — they pair great with dresses.

These New Balance sneakers are available in 20 fun shades, though we're partial to this pink pair. Like the Asics shoes above, Dr. Zaydenberg likes these for their rocker bottom and adds that they're a good pick for those with plantar fasciitis.

Toms Coated Canvas Avalon Slip-On

Toms
$35 $59 at Amazon

Those classic Toms you wore on your grocery store runs just got a major upgrade. These sport a chunky rubber sole, a removable insole and a cotton twill sock liner.

If you — or someone you know — has pain in the ball of her foot, these slip-ons might offer some relief.

"They're accommodative for someone with metatarsalgia because of the platform," Dr. Zaydenberg explains.

Birkenstock Gizeh Sandal

Birkenstock
$100 $125 at Amazon

They have a cork and latex footbed which provides shock absorption, extra arch support, a raised toe bar, and best of all, an adjustable strap.

These sandals need no introduction. They have a fanbase of nearly 20,000 five-star Amazon reviewers, and it's not hard to see why.

"The density of the sole is accommodative for people with arthralgia (joint pain), people with arthritic conditions and those with heel issues," Dr. Zaydenberg shares.

Ecco Women's Soft Classic Sneaker

Ecco
$77 $100 at Amazon

These low-tops are made with either a gorgeous full-grain leather or soft nubuck. The flexible sole uses Ecco's very own Fluidform technology to cushion your foot with each step.

These monochrome cuties are also comfy and good for your feet.

“The toe box looks accommodative, and they’re supportive," says Dr. Zaydenberg. "Plus, leather and suede are natural materials, which is good for people with skin conditions as they don’t promote sweat.”

Lane Slide Sandals

Cushionaire
$30 at Amazon

These are about to be the shoe of the summer. They offer a firm but flexible cork sole and soft suede footbed. Choose from 21 colors!

There's much to love about these sandals...but it's the straps that won over Dr. Zaydenberg.

“They can accommodate any type of foot, even wide ones," she explains. "The sole is accommodative for those with metatarsalgia and heel spurs."
