Mother of Ashli Babbitt Attends Vigil at DC Detention Center on Anniversary of Capitol Attack

The mother of Ashli Babbitt, who was fatally shot during the attack on the US Capitol in 2021, attended a vigil at a detention facility in Washington DC that was housing January 6 arrestees, on the anniversary of the attack.

Babbitt was shot and killed by inside the Capitol during the January 6 attack, when she attempted to breach a barricaded door.

Speaking to media in Washington, Babbitt’s mother, Micki Witthoeft, said, “I’m here to commemorate the 6th, to exercise my first amendment right, to support the prisoners who showed up for America on the 6th last year”.

Witthoeft said those who were arrested in the aftermath of the January 6 attacks “were suffering for no reason” and were “losing their businesses, losing their houses, losing their lives – lots of them for little more than carrying a flag”. Credit: Brendan Gutenschwager via Storyful
