2020 has been quite the year, but somehow, somehow celebrities have managed to keep up the drama. From break-ups to Twitter spats they've been fairly reliable in churning out scandalous moments and gasp-worthy shockers, keeping us entertained with every pass-agg caption.

In case you need a reminder of the years drama, here's our rundown of the most shocking pop culture moments of 2020. Grab the popcorn.

Jada Pinkett Smith’s 'entanglement'

Every so often a celebrity scandal comes along that has the power to change the cultural landscape, and this was one. In the most talked-about Red Table Talk since that Jordyn Woods episode, Jada Pinkett Smith revealed to her husband of 23-years that she had been in a relationship with another man. Instantly, Will Smith's face launched a thousand memes, the meaning of the word 'entanglement' changed forever, and even 50 Cent got involved when he decided to post some ill-advised screengrabs of him arguing with Will to Instagram. Chaos.

The drama began in June, when singer August Alsina said in an interview that Will Smith gave his "blessing" for him to date his wife, indicating that they have an open marriage. Jada's reps quickly denied the claims, but after a lot of chat online Jada and Will sat down together to clear the air on an episode of RTT, in which Jada admitted that she had been in an "entanglement" with August about four and a half years ago while she and Will were temporarily separated. The most memorable moment of the episode was when Jada came to describe her relationship with August and paused before calling it, "an entanglement," sending the internet into tailspin.

Sofia Richie and Scott Disick’s split

Sofia Richie and Scott Disick made headlines around the world in May of this year when it was reported that they had split after three years together. The relationship had always been cause for a lot of talk, from their 15-year age gap to the fact that Sofia's dad Lionel reportedly called the relationship a "phase". But we had all just started to get used to them as a couple when Sofia called time and moved her stuff out of Scott's home.

A source told E! News that "there wasn't a fight or anything bad that happened between them," but Sofia wants to "do her own thing" while Scott "take[s] care of his health."

Demi Lovato’s surprise engagement and even more surprising split

None of us could keep up with the whirlwind that was Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich's relationship. The couple got together in March and in July they announced their engagement on Instagram in separate posts. The rock was massive, the captions were gushing, all seemed well.

Then at the end of September it emerged that the couple had called time on their engagement and ended the relationship. Three days later and Ehrich took to his Instagram stories to reveal that he found out about the break-up online. "Imagine finding out about the status of your relationship through a tabloid," he wrote in a now deleted Instagram Story. Yikes.

Timothee Chalamet and Eiza Gonzales PDA

Pictures of Timothee Chalamet kissing really are becoming a mainstay of the celebrity world. Last year it was him and Lily Rose Depp on board a yacht in Capri and this year it was him and Eiza Gonzalez poolside in Cabo.

The major PDA came after his split from Lily Rose Depp in April. In May Timothée appeared in British Vogue, where his relationship status was referred to as 'single', and by June the Eiza Gonzalez kissing pictures were taking the tabloids by storm.

But by October ChalaZalez were apparently over, with sources close to the pair saying that it was essentially just a summer romance.

Scott Disick sliding into Megan Barton Hanson's DMs

Scott Disick has been a busy bee this year: not just hitting headlines for his break-up with Sofia Richie, but also for sliding into Love Islander Megan Barton Hanson's DMs, but... not like that.

Having just met ex-Islander Eyal Booker, (Scott is dating Amelia Hamlin, whose sister Delilah is dating Eyal) Scott clearly decided to watch Eyal's season of the show and was not happy with what he saw, and took to Instagram DMs to confront MBH directly about it.

The Ellen Degeneres backlash

This particular backlash has been rumbling away for most of this year after Variety reported in April that staffers on The Ellen Degeneres Show weren't happy with the lack of communication surrounding pay and working hours during the coronavirus pandemic. Then in July, the whole thing ramped up when a Buzzfeed report into the show alleged racism and intimidation among other workplace issues. Shortly after the claims emerged, execs at Telepictures and distributor Warner Bros. Television released a memo saying the show was under internal investigation.

Within a few days Ellen Degeneres sent out a lengthy memo to staffers apologising for issues surrounding workplace culture. But before long, the backlash re-started in September when Ellen delivered an opening monologue to her show which current and former employees criticised, saying it was tone deaf and made light of their trauma.

Chrishell Stause and Justin Hartley's text divorce

Season three of Selling Sunset dropped on Netflix in August, and with it came the details of Chrishell Stause and Justin Hartley's divorce, which we found out about at the end of season two.

In one particular scene Chrishell spoke to her Selling Sunset costar Mary Fitzgerald about the break-up, saying "I found out because he text me that we were filed... And 45 minutes later the world knew."

Ahead of the third series launching on Netflix Chrishell spoke out about how difficult it had been for her to see the divorce play out on the show. "We’re real people," she told the RealiTea with Derek Z podcast. "This was a traumatising time in my life and it’s going to be hard for me to watch it myself."

The happy news is that Chrishell recently announced she's now dating her Dancing With the Stars costar Keo Motsepe, and they look very cute and loved-up together.

Larsa Pippen Vs The Kardashians

This big old mess started back in July when fans began speculating something had happened between BFFs Kim and Larsa after they unfollowed each other on Instagram (as did all the sisters). The Kardashians also didn't attend Larsa's birthday party, or wish her a happy birthday on social media as they had done in previous years.

Fast forward to November 2020, and Larsa gave a tell-all interview claiming that not only was Kanye the reason she and Kim stopped talking (she said he'd call her incessantly until she blocked him), but also that she was dating Tristan Thompson before Khloé and had been the one to introduce them. All in all, it was a bit tense.

Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt reunion at the SAG Awards

It was all happening in the winner's room at the SAG awards back in January. After both picking up awards Jen and Brad bumped into each other backstage and were pictured together for the first time in years. And if that wasn't enough, after a smiley reconciliation Jen left to carry on her night, leaving Brad quite literally clutching her hand as she walked away from him.

Couldn't cope in January. Still can't cope now.

Assorted YouTuber beef

It wouldn't be an end of year celeb drama round up without some YouTube kick off, now would it? Despite (or because of) the fact we've all been indoors for the best part of this year 2020 was a big year for YouTube drama. In March, Nikkie Tutorials spoke out against Ellen Degeneres, two months later Love Island's Molly-Mae Hague slammed YouTuber JaackMaate, and in October Jeffree Starr accused his new boyfriend Andre Marhold of stealing from him.

And that's before we've even got onto Trisha Paytas, who spent November feuding with James Charles after he defended the D'Amelio sisters against backlash from fans for a YouTube video in which they joked about their personal chef.

Kylie Jenner was a billionaire... and then she wasn't

In April of this year Forbes published it's annual list of The World's Billionaires, revealing Kylie Jenner to be the world's youngest self-made billionaire for a second year in a row. But just a month later Forbes stripped Kylie of her billionaire status and published a lengthy report titled 'Kylie Jenner's Web Of Lies' which claimed that she had "inflated the size and success of her business for years".

"Filings released by publicly traded Coty over the past six months lay bare one of the family’s best-kept secrets: Kylie’s business is significantly smaller, and less profitable, than the family has spent years leading the cosmetics industry and media outlets, including Forbes, to believe," they claimed.

They also alleged that the Kardashians went to "unusual" lengths to prove Kylie’s wealth, which included "creating tax returns that were likely forged".

Kylie responded to the claims in a string of tweets in which she denied the allegations and ultimately told followers that she is very grateful for her life and (still very significant) wealth.

Wagatha Christie goes to court

October 2019 was a big month. Specifically because it was the month the Wagatha Christie scandal was born. To recap (as if you need it), Coleen Rooney took to Instagram to call out fellow WAG Rebecca Vardy, claiming that Vardy had been "informing the press about her private online posts".

In the post Coleen detailed her full-blown investigation which uncovered the alleged leaker ending the story with the now famous sentence, "It's.......... Rebecca Vardy's account."

As I'm sure you remember, the internet was pure pandemonium that day. Coleen quickly gained the title of 'Wagatha Christie', and even Netflix got involved, joking that they'd have to make a documentary about the whole thing. Fast forward to November 2020 and the Wagatha Christie scandal went to court after Rebecca Vardy sued Coleen for libel. Lawyers even had to clarify for the judge what the term 'WAG' meant. We really can't wait for the series.

Kim Kardashian's private island scandal

In October of this year Kim Kardashian turned 40 and celebrated with a modest party involving only her husband and children, social distancing and a giant cake made to look like a bottle of hand sanitiser. Oh wait, no - scratch that. Kim celebrated by taking actual crowds of people to a private island and then posting about it all over social media. Sigh.

It was the social media post in particular that irked, with thousands of people taking to Twitter with their own comedy versions of Kim's private island announcement.

Overall it seemed as though people just wanted Kim to read the room a little better, but things didn't exactly improve when Kim continued to share pictures from the trip, even after the backlash, even captioning one beach post, "Not done yet! ☀️ Sunrise Crew ☀️," which as you can imagine did not go down hugely well.
