It’s safe to say 2020 has been a rather unusual year. While international travel was put on hold indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic, this past summer saw a stark rise in staycations as Brits flocked to remote parts of the UK to take a break.

It seems we’re about to see a return of this mass exodus as TripAdvisor has released its Winter Travel Index, pinpointing the most popular destinations in the UK for a Christmas getaway.

According to the travel review site, Whitby, Inverness, Bowness, Torquay and Windermere are the fastest recovering domestic destinations for Christmas getaways in 2020, based on year-on-year demand.

It reports that these destinations were popular over the summer months as well and that we can expect to see the nature activity trend continue too, as 51% of travellers say they want to have an ‘outdoors trip’ sometime in the next three months.
