'Most Magical Experience': Incredible Rainbow Light Show Seen in Washington Ice Cave

A photographer found himself at the right place at the right time in Mount Rainier, Washington, recently when his hike inside an ice cave turned into a fairytale, as the rising sun hitting the surface created a rainbow effect.

Stunning footage from photographer Mathew Nichols shows the cave beaming with color, as the sunlight refracted through ice crystals and algae on top of the snow.

Publishing the footage to his Facebook account Nichols commented that this was “maybe the most magical experience of my life.”

“I went up to Mount Rainier specifically to explore the ice caves and never imagined they would be SO COLORFUL,” he wrote on the platform, adding: “I never would have guessed that this existed in America, much less so close to home.”

Nichols said that the light show lasted for about two hours, and that the vibrancy then diminished as the day progressed.

“Even though it was very cold exploring these ice caves I did not want it to end. I can’t wait to go back and explore some more,” he said.

Quoting officials, Fox warned against the exploration of ice caves. Nichols told Storyful that the caves were very dangerous to individuals who were not familiar with safety procedures. Credit: Mathew Nichols via Storyful
