'The Most Hated Man On The Internet': How accurate is Netflix's latest true crime series?

Another week, another fascinating true crime documentary — The Most Hated Man On The Internet lands on Netflix today.

The three-part documentary about Hunter Moore, known for sharing huge amounts of revenge porn online, explores how one woman set about taking him down in defence of her daughter.

When is The Most Hated Man On The Internet available to watch?

The documentary is three episodes long and will be available to stream on Netflix from Wednesday, 27 July.

Who is Hunter Moore?

The documentary delves into the heinous actions of Hunter Moore, the self-styled "King of Revenge Porn".

Moore set up the website IsAnyoneUp.com, a notorious revenge porn hub, in the 2010s where he shared explicit photos of women and men, often without their consent.

It proved devastating for those targeted, especially as Moore's cult of followers were encouraged by him to leave insulting comments about the people in the photos, whose social media details were also included.

Moore doesn't appear in the documentary himself, although there is a lot of archive footage of him.

Director Rob Miller said: "You hear from him throughout the series. And a lot of things that he said that we included in the series he said repeatedly over various interviews, so it's not just a one-off that he can excuse by saying 'I was on coke' or 'I was drunk'. So, I do feel it’s representative of who he was, at that point in time."

What is The Most Hated Man On The Internet about?

While Moore's founding of the site and effects on his victims is featured, the really fascinating story in this documentary is how one mother set about tackling him and his followers after her daughter was targeted.

Charlotte Laws was the woman who made it her mission to take down Moore after her daughter Kayla – who is clearly still devastated as she describes finding out her nude photo had been shared online nearly 10 years ago – was being used on Moore's site.

Executive producer Alex Marengo describes Laws as "the Erin Brockovich of revenge porn" and said the story was fascinating.

Marengo said: "As storytellers, you want to engage an audience but it’s even better if the story also has some meaning. This was not just a very unusual story.

"It felt important because it happened at the moment where the internet was just gearing up to be the thing that it is now. Nobody really understood the consequences of what they were doing. It's very powerful.

"I suppose in the end, the question that it leaves you with is, 'Well, how should we regulate this? Should we really be allowed to just do anything we like? Even if it leads to people —in this case some quite vulnerable women— attempting suicide, or with completely wrecked self-esteem?' It had real weight, but at the same time, it was like this rip-roaring, rollicking story with great characters."
