One of the best bits about the festive season is the food it brings with it. From pigs in blankets, to the ever-divisive Brussels sprout, and beloved Christmas pudding, there’s a lot to dig into.

Yet, one meal we can eat time and time again during the colder months is a carvery - but where can you get the most bang for your buck?

New research from Betway has analysed data from 179 different carveries across the UK to find the most - and least - expensive British cities to get a weekend pub roast.

While some may think that London has the most expensive carveries in the UK, the Welsh city of Swansea actually takes the top spot with an average price of £12.89.

This is closely followed by Leicester at £12.57, Gloucester at £12.46, Edinburgh at £12.43, and Peterborough at £12.42.

On the other hand, the research also found the cheapest places for a carvery in the UK, with Wolverhampton taking the top spot with an average price of £10.99.

The research also detailed which places have the best and worst carveries in Britain, with London being named the worst as it has just one roast dinner restaurant for every 10,000 people, and only 3% of dining spots in the capital serve roast dinners.

Leicester, Birmingham, Aberdeen and Bradford also have the least amount of carveries compared to population size, making them among the top five worst places in the UK to get a roast dinner.

As for where is the best place to get a carvery, Bristol was named as the winner as 18% of restaurants in the city serve roast dinners.

Newcastle, York, Portsmouth, and Southend were also named among the best places to get a carvery.

Roasts are perennially popular in the UK, with research finding that the public consumes an average of 1.3 roasts per week each.
