More Than 900 Cold-Stunned Turtles Returned to Sea Following Texas Deep Freeze

Approximately 915 sea turtles were returned to their natural habitat on Tuesday, February 23, off Padre Island in Texas, after being in the care of experts during freezing temperatures that caught the state off-guard.

Drone footage shared on Facebook by the Padre Island NS Division of Sea Turtle Science & Recovery shows the turtle release.

Record low temperatures during the previous week incapacitated a large number of sea turtles. Thousands were rescued by organizations across Texas and returned to the sea once water temperatures were safely above 50 F. Credit: Padre Island NS Division of Sea Turtle Science & Recovery via Storyful
