More than 250 elementary students remain suspended with incomplete vaccine records
More than 250 students in Essex County students are out of school due to incomplete immunization records, the health unit said in an update on Wednesday.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reports that 257 elementary students are suspended from school because of incomplete records.
That's down from nearly 600 students at the beginning of the week.
The health unit advises parents that suspensions will be lifted as soon as they complete one of four actions:
Updated their child's recordings online with uploaded proof of immunization
Have a healthcare provider fax missing immunization records to the health unit
Book an appointment for their child to receive missing vaccines or obtain a valid medical exception and update those records
Bring missing records to the health unit or attend a WECHU immunization clinic in Windsor or Leamington.
Once the records are updated, suspensions will be lifted and students can return to school, health officials say.
Mandatory vaccines include polio, mumps and measles, rubella and chicken pox.
In November, the health unit warned more than 11,000 elementary and secondary school students were identified as having missing or incomplete records. Most of those vaccines are usually administered by primary care providers, the health unit says.
Health officials advised parents at the beginning of the school year it would be reviewing records to ensure all vaccines are up to date. At the end of January, nearly 2,600 elementary school students had been at risk of suspension.
Health unit offices are open Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30 to update immunization records and provide missing vaccines.
