SINGAPORE — Monthly school fees for Singapore permanent residents and international students in government and government-aided schools are set to increase by up to $150 for the next two years, said the Ministry of Education (MOE) on Thursday (21 October).

The fee hikes will take effect from January each year, as part of MOE’s regular review of school fees.

"The release of planned fee increases for non-citizens over the next two years will enable parents to plan for the financing of their children’s studies in MOE schools," said an MOE spokesperson.

In 2022 and 2023, monthly school fees will rise by $25 to $60 for PR students, and $25 to $150 for international students each year.

The biggest increases will be for students from non-ASEAN countries - for example, secondary and pre-university school fees will go up by $150 in 2022, then by another $150 in 2023.

For secondary school fees, this amounts to a rise of about 10 per cent in 2022, and around 9 per cent the following year. Pre-university fees will go up by around 8 per cent and 7 per cent in each year, respectively.

School fees for citizens in government and government-aided schools will remain the same.

The standard miscellaneous fees will also remain unchanged. Second-tier miscellaneous fees are set by schools and are capped. The same miscellaneous fees apply to students of all nationalities.

According to the MOE website, Singapore citizens attending government and government-aided schools pay $6.50 to $13 per month for primary schools, $5 to $25 for secondary schools and $6 to $33 for pre-universities.
