'Monster' Tornado Forms Amid Post-Ida Storms in New Jersey

A damaging tornado was confirmed to have touched down in Mullica Hill, New Jersey, on September 1, as the remnants of Hurricane Ida caused chaos along the East Coast.

This video by photographer Ryan Thoden shows the tornado moving through Mullica Hill, which lies several miles south of the Philadelphia-Camden metro region. “Look at that tornado,” Thoden says. “Monster tornado.”

Several homes were levelled by the tornado, while other footage showed farm buildings damaged. Harrison Township Mayor Louis Manzo said around 100 homes in total were damaged during the stormy weather.

The National Weather Service said survey crews would be sent out on September 2.

New Jersey Gov Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency on September 1. “We will use every resource at our disposal to ensure the safety of New Jerseyans,” he tweeted. “Stay off the roads, stay home, and stay safe.” Credit: Ryan Thoden via Storyful
