Monsoon Rain in Arizona Leads to Flash Flooding

Monsoon rain poured over central Arizona on September 23 and led to flash flooding in Apache Junction and Mesa, local media reported.

In a video uploaded to YouTube by Wayne Young, a resident of Mesa, sheets of rain fall onto yards, driveways, and a residential street.

Young said he recorded the footage from inside his home in Mesa.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix said a flash flood warning was in effect for multiple parts of Arizona, including Mesa, Apache Junction, and Central Phoenix.

“Flash flooding will likely result in road closures and cause area washes to run heavily. Unprepared motorists could become trapped within fast-flowing washes, necessitating water rescues. Water levels can rapidly rise and flow into area homes and businesses,” the NWS said. Credit: Wayne Young via Storyful
