Mom is undergoing a major cast shake-up ahead of its eighth season, as series star Anna Faris has confirmed she won't be returning.
Faris has starred as Christy Plunkett in the hit CBS show since its premiere in 2013, featuring in all seven series of the show to date.
However, the actress has now made the decision to leave the series in order to pursue other opportunities, and thanked creator Chuck Lorre, the writers and her cast mates for a "wonderful work experience" in a statement.
"The past seven years on Mom have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career," Faris said (via The Hollywood Reporter).
"I'm so thankful to Chuck, the writers, and my amazing castmates for creating a truly wonderful work experience. While my journey as Christy has come to an end, allowing me to pursue new opportunities, I'll be watching next season and rooting for my TV family."
Mom follows mother-daughter duo Christy and Bonnie Plunkett as they attempt to reconnect and pull their lives and relationship together after years of estrangement while both were struggling with addiction.
Since its early seasons, the show has grown into more of an ensemble piece and it's understood that the role of Christy won't be recast. Instead, her absence will be addressed in the new episodes.
"From the inception of Mom, Anna was the first and only choice for the role of Christy," said Warner Bros TV and Chuck Lorre Productions in a statement.
"We are so proud of the stories we have been able to tell during Anna's seven years with us. We wish Anna all the best, and we thank her for her beautiful portrayal."
Allison Janney, Mimi Kennedy, Jaime Pressly, Beth Hall, William Fichtner and Kirsten Johnston are all set to return for season 8 of the show, which is due to begin production later this month.
Mom airs on CBS in the US.
