A mom is speaking following the death of her 3-year-old son, who died after running into traffic in Florida on Sunday.

In an update shared on a GoFundMe campaign launched for the family, Cayden Denny's grandmother shared a Facebook post from the boy's mother, who was also struck by the car as she tried to stop her son.

"As most of you know, Johnny Denny and I tragically lost our son Cayden Sunday night. I can’t even express how I feel right now besides empty," mom Cassie wrote in the message. "I am physically hurt as the vehicle [that] struck Cayden and I [was] going 65 mph down dairy road in front of our home."

"All I really know is that I tried my best to save him," Cassie added. "It all happened very fast."

She went on to say that while her body is "recovering," she's unsure if her "heart ever will."

"I am currently living my worst nightmare. I want to thank everyone for their support and kind words," she continued. "Please keep my baby boy in your prayers. If any of you knew Cayden, you know how much light he brought to any room. We are devastated!"

He entered traffic by running behind a trailer they were pulling, police said.

A family friend who launched a separate GoFundMe after the deadly incident, said in a Facebook post that a public memorial for Cayden will be held at Pelican Park in Satellite Beach on Friday at 1 p.m.

"All are invited to attend and mourn the loss of this sweet young man," he said, adding that he's "amazed by the outpouring of support from the community."

As of Wednesday morning, both GoFundMes have raised over $20,000 for expenses and funeral costs.
