KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said the party was forced to expel Kedah chapter chief Datuk Phahrolrazi Mohd Zawawi for being a disrupting influence within the party and Pakatan Harapan.

The politician commonly called Mat Sabu said the decision was difficult but noted that Phahrolrazi could still appeal.

“He was among the earlier members who help set up Amanah and one who worked hard.

“We thank him for his contribution, but we had to take disciplinary action against his remarks or actions as it was seen as causing tension to the PH atmosphere heading towards the 15th general election,” Mohamad told reporters during a press conference at the Amanah headquarters here today.

Phahrolrazi was sacked today with immediate effect for violating the party’s constitution.

The state party’s deputy chairman Datuk Dr Ismail Salleh would take on the responsibility and duties.

Amanah communications director Khalid Abdul Samad, who was also present, said differing views within the party does not mean trouble.

“But if it involves inciting members to not work for the election and boycotting the election, that becomes a problem.

“This does not only become a problem within Amanah but also to PH as a whole, it is as if Kedah is begging to be handed over to the opponent,” he said.

He added that Phahrolrazi went overboard with his call, resulting in the disciplinary action to pre-empt his call for a boycott.

Phahrolrazi was allegedly upset with Amanah’s decision to trade some parliamentary seats with PH partner DAP, prompting the purported call for a boycott.
