“Modern Family” siblings Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Julie Bowen both spend Thanksgiving in ER with sons
Fortunately, the actors each report that their kids are fine.
Modern Family costars Julie Bowen and Jesse Tyler Ferguson are both feeling grateful after taking separate trips to the emergency room on Thanksgiving with their respective sons.
Bowen, who played type-A mom Claire Dunphy on the hit sitcom, posted an Instagram photo Thursday evening showing one of her boys silhouetted against the glow of the ER entrance. "It's not a holiday without a trip to the ER," she wrote in the caption. She added, "(He's fine, btw) HAPPY THANKSGIVING."
Meanwhile Ferguson, who played Claire's younger brother Mitch on Modern Family, revealed in his own Instagram post Friday morning that he also spent the holiday at the hospital with his son.
Commiserating with his former screen sibling, Ferguson wrote, "I have received a lot of parenting wisdom from @itsjuliebowen so seeing I wasn't the only one with a kid in the ER on Thanksgiving was comforting." Adding that his son is "also fine," Ferguson thanked "the kind folks at Lennox Health" and said New York City "really DOES have the best healthcare."
Bowen shares three sons with ex-husband Scott Phillips, one born in April 2007 and twin boys born in May 2009, with whom she was pregnant while shooting the Modern Family pilot. Ferguson and his husband, Justin Mikita, share two children, Beckett and Sullivan, born in 2020 and 2022.
All the Modern Family cast members have remain close friends since the series' conclusion in 2020. The adult actors recently came together at the SAG Awards for an onstage reunion, but they often spend time together outside work. Ferguson even officiated his TV niece Sarah Hyland's wedding to The Bachelor franchise star Wells Adams (and both Bowen and Sofia Vergara were among the guests).
It's probably still too early for a Modern Family reboot (though a Mitch and Cam spinoff was once considered), but joint holiday visits to the emergency room sounds like a plotline straight out of the Emmy-winning series.
Let's hope Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Phil (Ty Burrell) kept some turkey warm for their TV spouses.
