Modern Family’s Haley Dunphy Proposes and Gets Married to Longtime Boyfriend Dylan

Now that’s a modern twist on tradition. Modern Family character Haley Dunphy proposed to longtime boyfriend Dylan on the long-running sitcom’s latest episode, which aired Wednesday, April 10.

Haley (Sarah Hyland) went into false labor as she’s nine months into her pregnancy. At the hospital, Haley noticed something interesting about her personal life, observing it aloud to Dylan (Reid Ewing).

“That was weird, the doctor called you my husband,” she noted. “It was weird because I liked it.”

“Seriously?” Dylan replied. “Because I’ve proposed like six times.”

The two were outside of the hospital when Haley was prompted to get down on one knee—with a bit shakiness due to her late-term pregnancy. “It just seemed so old-fashioned at the time,” she said to Dylan as she proposed.

The couple ended up eloping that same day with a family ceremony conducted by father of the bride Phil Dunphy. “Your mom’s right,” Phil said as he gave his blessing to the couple. “We eloped and I still think of it as the best day of my life.”

On her Instagram page, Hyland posted a photo from the moment with a reference to Friends. “Not as graceful or romantic as Monica…” she said of the proposal delivered by Courteney Cox’s character. “But I’ll take representing a strong woman who knows what she wants any day.”
