Mobile Services Restored in Kherson by Arrival of Starlink Terminals

Residents in the Ukrainian city of Kherson, which was recaptured from Russian forces on November 11, welcomed the return of mobile phone and internet services after the delivery of multiple Starlink terminals to the city.

The terminals, which are manufactured by SpaceX, allow for internet connections through SpaceX’s Starlink satellites. Ukrainian authorities said Russian forces had severed communication services in Kherson during their occupation of the city.

In footage released by Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov, a number of Starlink devices being unloaded on Monday, November 14, and set up in Kherson’s Svobody Square and people gathering around to use their mobile devices.

According to Ukraine’s public broadcaster, Suspilne, some people were contacting their loved ones for the first time in months.

Federov said at least 210 Starlink devices were being delivered to Kherson. Five WiFi points were set up in a single day and a further 60 would be established throughout the region, he said. Credit: Mykhailo Federov via Storyful
