Malaysian team Geek Fam has announced that they have signed multirole Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (ML:BB) player, Mohamad Zul “Xorn” Hisham, to a new deal that will have him remain committed to them while being loaned to other organisations.

In a statement on Tuesday (10 November), Geek Fam said that their new deal with Xorn will “reemphasise his long term commitment to the club” while being placed on loan to teams in other regions “in order to gain international exposure”.

After finishing second in Season 5 of ML:BB Pro League (MPL) MY/SG back in May, Geek Fam faltered in the Playoffs of Season 6 last month, losing in the second round of the Lower Bracket to their Season 5 finals opponent, Singaporean team Resurgence.

This prompted Geek Fam to start rebuilding and establish a new roster. However, the team is determined to bring back Xorn, whom they have described as the soul of their previous squad, once they have finished rebuilding.

“Placing Xorn on a medium term loan would allow Geek Fam the best opportunity to create a new team dynamic, grow talent, as well as expand Xorn’s horizon, allowing him to return one day as a more complete player and leader,” Geek Fam said.

Interest from Indonesia, Philippines

Xorn has already drawn interest from teams in Indonesia and the Philippines, though Geek Fam said that they are still mulling over options from other regions and are in no rush to complete a deal.

The organisation added that, with their own rebuild in mind, Xorn’s “medium-term future” will play a vital role in their decision-making.

Xorn himself said that his preferred destination would be Indonesia, saying that the competitive level of the country’s MPL Franchise League is what caught his eye.

“I look forward to this arrangement as I love the club (Geek Fam) and would love to play a bigger role in it in the future. However, I feel there’s a lot more room for me to grow as a player and I would love to experience a [life as a player] abroad,” said Xorn.

“I also would like to thank Geek Fam for nurturing me as a player these past two and half years. I trust in the management decision made by Geek Fam and look forward to the outcome of this season’s transfer window.”

The rest of Geek Fam’s roster has been signed to new contracts that will have them take on developmental roles within the team, as the organisation has already begun an open recruitment drive to begin its rebuild.
