Missing Texas Woman Was Found Dead off Hiking Trail, Police Charge Man After Being Questioned on Case
Stacey Dramiga, 63, went on her regular morning walk at a San Antonio park on Sunday morning and never made it back home, say police
A Texas woman out for her morning walk on a popular San Antonio park trail was found dead — and now police have arrested a man on charges of evading arrest and detention after being questioned in the case.
On Monday, Sept. 22, authorities found the body of a woman in a wooded area of the Salado Creek Greenway Trail near Dafoste Park in San Antonio, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as Stacey Dramiga, 63, of San Antonio, the Medical Examiner's Office confirmed to PEOPLE.
Dramiga was the victim of an apparent homicide, the Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed.
The autopsy report said Dramiga died of “blunt force, penetrating trauma of the head,” the Medical Examiner’s Office said.
On Thursday, Sept. 26, the BCSO arrested Marco Flores, 38, and charged him with evading arrest and detention, a spokesperson for the BCSO said in an email to PEOPLE.
“Prior to leaving the scene, a BCSO Deputy made contact with a male,” the email stated. “The male was later identified as Marco Flores.
“While Flores was speaking with the Deputy, Flores provided some details regarding the victim's condition that were not released to the public.”
When Flores was told that he would be transported to the Criminal Investigation Department for questioning, he ran from the deputy, the email said.
Deputies were able to detain him and transported him to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters for questioning.
“Investigators spoke with Flores but he provided no additional info,” the email said.
He was transported to South Tower, where he was booked and remains held.
It is unclear whether he has retained an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
On Monday, Sept. 23, Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar held a press conference telling reporters that the sheriff’s office was notified on Sunday night at 11 p.m. that Dramiga was missing.
Dramiga was last seen at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Salazar said.

“When she didn't return home, her husband and family and friends became somewhat concerned,” he said.
Dramiga was a “regular” at the park, he said. “She loved to come walk the Greenway Trails in the morning,” he said.
A man told authorities he saw Dramiga talking to an African American woman along the trail who, Salazar learned, was also a regular walker.
He said they don’t believe the woman had anything to do with Dramiga’s death but asked her to contact the BCSO because authorities believe she is the last person to have seen Dramiga alive.
Dramiga worked at the Brooke Army Medical Center, which released a statement on Wednesday, saying that it had received “the tragic news that a member of our family, Ms. Stacey Dramiga, was found deceased by the Bexar County Sheriff’s office after having been missing since Sunday morning.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, friends, and co-workers. Stacey was a beloved member of the BAMC staff and will be greatly missed.”
The sheriff asked anyone who came in contact with Dramiga on Sunday morning or passed her on the trail to reach out to the sheriff’s office at 210-335-6000 or email BCSOTIPS@Bexar.org.
