Minister: MACC still probing Telekom's sale of Menara KL shares

KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is still investigating the case involving public-listed firm Telekom Malaysia Berhad’s sale of shares in its subsidiary Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd to Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd, minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has confirmed.

In a brief written parliamentary reply yesterday, Azalina who is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) said the investigation details cannot be disclosed at this point in time.

“For Yang Berhormat’s information, this issue is still under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation. Therefore, MACC cannot reveal the details of that investigation,” she said.

She was replying Kuala Selangor MP Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad, who had asked the prime minister to state the latest report regarding the investigation on Telekom Malaysia Berhad’s sale of those shares to another company last October.

On December 29, the MACC said it would probe the matter to determine if there is any element of corruption.

The MACC had on January 6 arrested two senior company directors in relation to the case, and they were later remanded for several days to assist in the investigation.

On February 23, local daily Berita Harian reported MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki as saying that the investigation on the Menara KL case has been completed and that investigation papers have been presented to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
