From Cosmopolitan

Anna Delvey, the scammer who posed as a millionaire heiress to con friends, hotels and banks out of hundreds of thousands of dollars, is currently in prison. Which makes it all the more odd that a new post been uploaded to her Instagram account - the first since 2017.

Delvey - whose real name is Anna Sorokin - was sentenced to a minimum of four years (and a maximum of 12) for theft last May. The amount of time she actually serves will depend on how she behaves in prison, but even if she had displayed the most exemplary behaviour, there's no chance she'd be getting out just yet. Her earliest possible release date is reportedly October 19, 2021.

As part of prison rules, Anna shouldn't have access to her phone. Which means she shouldn't have access to her Instagram account. But despite this, an illustration has appeared on the scammer's grid, depicting a cartoon man all in black carrying a blonde-haired, pink-lipped woman in his arms. Next to her, the words "...but I'm too pretty to go to jail!" appear alongside a kiss emoji, in the format of an iMessage.

It's creepy - and no-one can quite understand how it got there.

Although Anna Delvey/Sorokin played so many people - including some who considered her a good friend - extracting thousands of dollars from them to fund her lavish lifestyle, she still has an army of fans who look up to her. Since the new post appeared on her @theannadelvey Instagram account on Monday, her admirers have piped up in excitement.

"Our queen is back," wrote one follower. Another posted: "We needed you back now more than ever."

Errrrr...

The adoration didn't stop there, either. Some comments expressed love for the fake millionaire heiress, while others described how much people have "missed" her while she's been behind bars. "An icon never fades," posted one fan.

But then there were people who were daunted by Anna's 'comeback'. "Holy shit," wrote one person. "How'd she get a phone in jail?" questioned someone else. "What's going on?" added another suspicious follower. But among all the questions, there were no answers. Anna - or whoever posted the picture on her behalf - stayed quiet.

It could be that the account has been hacked, but there's also a suggestion that perhaps Anna has been freed from jail during the coronavirus pandemic. While it has been confirmed that non-violent prisoners will be released from Rikers Island prison in New York, it has not been announced that other prisons across the state will be doing the same. Anna Sorokin is based at Albion Correctional Facility in New York State, where it's assumed she'll remain until her time is fully served out.

So wtf is going on? Sadly, it looks like we'll just have to wait and see. Either there's a hacker involved, or one of the most notorious scammers of our time has found herself back online...
