Military Releases Cockpit Video of Texas Training Jet Striking Bird, Crashing

Newly released footage shows a US Navy training jet colliding with a bird moments before crashing into a neighborhood in Lake Worth, Texas, in September of last year.

The cockpit video was released by the Chief of Naval Air Training on Monday, September 19, on the one-year anniversary of the crash.

The video from a T-45C Goshawk shows the cockpit view. A large bird is seen being “ingested” by the aircraft during its descent toward a runway at Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, the Chief of Naval Air Training said.

One of the pilots can be heard yelling an expletive before alarms sound in the cockpit.

Three homes were damaged in the crash, but only the pilots – a student and instructor who ejected before impact – were injured. Both survived, which local authorities told KSAT was “a miracle.” Credit: DVIDS via Storyful
