Relief efforts continued in southern Louisiana on September 9, nearly two weeks after Hurricane Ida made landfall there as a category 4 storm.
On Wednesday, authorities in Louisiana raised the statewide storm-related death toll to 26, adding 11 deaths in New Orleans caused by carbon monoxide poisoning and “excessive heat during an extended power outage."
Remnants of Ida later caused catastrophic flooding in the Northeast, killing over 50 people there.
