Mila Jirin to sue netizen for slanderous comment

20 Aug – Akademi Fantasia alumna Mila Jirin recently admitted that she is planning to take legal action against one Mr Afiq for the slanderous statement against her.

The singer-turned-businesswoman revealed to the media that she has already spoken to her lawyer, stating that the said social media user has severely damaged her reputation after accusing her of taking money from former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"We've also already went through all the comments in his post," she said.

The whole brouhaha sparked following Mila's earlier Instagram post, in which she expressed her sadness over Tan Sri Muhyiddin's resignation.

The said netizen then took to social media, writing, "No wonder she cried her eyeballs out. She got RM76,000 a month during MCO 1.0, and RM38,000 a month in the next phase. How lucky for your company. Other people had to use all their savings and EPF to continue with their business and survival."

Speaking about the supposed amount, Mila admitted that she did receive the said funds, which was a part of the wage subsidy programme (PSU) implemented by the government to help small and medium enterprises.

"For every employee, they subsidised RM1,200 per person for six months. My company has 62 employees, so the amount was more than RM70,000. The amount was correct, but it saddens me that people accused me of receiving money illegally," she said, adding that her company was not the only business that received such assistance.

It is noted that Mila, whose catering business has been severely affected by the pandemic, has also been branching out to various businesses throughout the pandemic to help pay her employees' wages, including selling durians during the durian season.
