Migrants Wait at US Border Ahead of Title 42 Expiration

Groups of migrants were seen waiting to be processed at the US border near El Paso, Texas, on Wednesday, May 10, one day before a pandemic-era immigration policy, Title 42, was set to expire.

Footage recorded by photojournalist Corrie Boudreaux shows what she estimated to be at least 200 migrants near the border fence.

Title 42 has been used more than 2.8 million times since March 2020 by US authorities to expel migrants at the southern border without allowing them to request asylum, according to data from Customs and Border Protection.

The legislation was set to expire on May 11.

US officials were expecting up to 13,000 migrants, more than double the current average, to cross the southern border every day once Title 42 lifts, according to reports. Credit: Corrie Boudreaux via Storyful
