Microsoft Surface computers for students and gamers

It was June 2012 when Microsoft introduced the Surface products, which started with mixed reviews from the public. In more recent years, though, Microsoft has done incredible work adapting and improving their products. Over the previous eight years, Microsoft has created computers suitable for businesses, creatives, gamers and students. But from the public perspective it can be difficult to register which ones are suitable for certain sectors.

For this reason, we’ve researched and analysed their computers and broken them down into those most suitable for different personas. From the size of the product to the specifications, we’ve found the most suitable Surface computers for students and gamers.

Microsoft Surface Book 2 is available in both 13.5” or 15” PixelSense display. One of the most impressive features the Surface Book 2 has is the 17 hours of battery life, ideal for those long days of studying (or movies after a hard day of studying). The high-speed Intel processor can be chosen depending on the kind of programmes you run. If you think you’ll be pushing the limits of your computer, then opt for the quad-core processor; otherwise, stick with the dual-core. Not only is this computer good for your time studying, but it can also be used to play PC games due to the high power. That way you can work hard, and play harder.

If you’re a design student or enjoy doodling then you can fold the keyboard behind the screen and use the Surface Pen to draw with professional-grade software.

If you want to collapse your laptop down to become more mobile you can remove the keyboard and use the screen as a tablet.

Weight varies depending on the option you choose; however, all are impressively lightweight.

If you know you won’t need to use your computer as a tablet and prefer standard laptops, then the Surface Laptop 3 will be right up your street. Similar, but slicker in design, Laptop 3 is more customisable, offering the option of multiple rich colours and durable finishes. The trackpad is larger in size making the compromise of not using a mouse slightly less inconvenient. The display remains the same with both the 13.5” and the 15” to choose from.

Due to being slightly more powerful, the battery life is slightly less than that for the Surface Book 2, still performing above average – you will get 11.5 hours of battery as opposed to 17.

The new and improved AMD Ryzen™ 7 Microsoft Surface® Edition processor is the fastest 15” computer around. The Surface Laptop 3 weighs as little as 1.54kg while containing the pleasantly thin and light aesthetic.
