The Edenville Dam in Midland County, Michigan, failed on May 19, sending a huge blast of water into the already flooded Sanford Lake and prompting evacuations.
Footage shot downriver from the dam shows nearby Curtis Road Bridge close to flooded by the Tittabawasee River.
Local news reported the dam failed after several days of heavy rainfall in Michigan and the Midwest. Nearly 10,000 Michigan resident were evacuated.
Governor Whitmer wrote on May 19 in response to the dam break: “I will issue an emergency declaration tonight to ensure officials have the resources they need to respond to the Edenville Dam collapse. The State Emergency Operations Center is activated & fully engaged in the response. We’ll share additional information as it becomes available.” Credit: Iron Wheel Farms, LLC via Storyful
