Michigan voters return John James to House
Rep. John James (R-Mich.) will win his House election for another term representing Michigan’s 10th Congressional District, Decision Desk HQ projects.
James defeated Democrat Carl Marlinga, a former circuit court judge and prosecutor, to win his second term representing the battleground district. Marlinga was the Democratic nominee for the district also in 2022, losing to James by less than 1 percentage point.
The district is a key battleground in a major swing state and could help decide which party controls the House in the next session of Congress. It is one of three major battleground House districts in Michigan.
The seat was seen as a possible pickup opportunity for Democrats, with analysts viewing it as a toss-up or leaning Republican. But James’s win means Democrats will have to a path to the majority without it.
