Michael Hoff Launches Production Company The Shed, Sets Ale Fips Pic ‘That’s Our thing, What If…’ As First Project

EXCLUSIVE: Michael Hoff, an up-and-coming producer who has worked on such titles as Tyger Tyger starring Dylan Sprouse and the forthcoming Wetiko, on Tuesday announced the launch of The Shed, a new production company focused on developing film and television projects for global markets with an emphasis on the U.S. and Latin America.

The debut project for the company will be a feature produced by and starring Mexico’s Ale Fips (Como dice el dicho), titled That’s our thing, What If…. A modern-day love story set in the incredibly tumultuous yet often hilarious dating landscape of Los Angeles, it’s based on the award-winning 2018 short of the same name, which Fips wrote and produced. Hoff will join Fips as a producer of the feature adaptation.

Explained Hoff of the genesis of his partnership with Fips, “When I was shooting Wetiko, I first heard of Ale from our incredible crew in Mexico. I started watching her work and was immediately drawn to her captivating onscreen presence, and her unique ability to immerse herself in every role she plays. She shared her short film ‘That’s our thing,’ and I immediately realized this was the perfect project for The Shed. Partnering with talented, groundbreaking artists like Ale is our MO.”

Stated Fips, “I couldn’t be more excited to partner with Michael and the Shed team to bring this amazing story to life. ‘That’s our thing, What If…’ started as nothing more than an idea I had while studying acting at Stella Adler, and now to see it develop into a feature film with a passionate and driven producer like Michael at the helm is truly a dream come true.”

Best known for producing Tyger Tyger, a pandemic thriller starring Sprouse that oddly shot just before the outbreak of the Covid pandemic, Hoff’s next film Wetiko is described as a mythopoetic adventure centered on a Mayan teen who ventures into the jungle as he attempts to define his identity in the modern world. Starring Ariel Award winner Juan Daniel García Treviño, the film shot in the jungles of Southern Mexico premiered at the Stockholm International Film Festival and has also played at the New Orleans Film Festival.

Beginning her acting career in Mexico’s adaptation of High School Musical for Disney Channel and TV Azteca, Fips went on to star in La Rosa de Guadalupe and Como Dice el dicho, two of Mexico’s highest-rated series. Also featuring in the Reddot award-winning immersive exposition Vida y Obra de Frida Kahlo, she’s on the Board of Directors and play selection committee for A Light in Dark Places, a Los Angeles based non-profit which uses theater to reach out to those whose lives have been affected by suicide.
