Police officers in Miami Beach shone lights to remember the victims of the Surfside condominium collapse, hours before the remaining part of the building was demolished on July 4.
Since the partial collapse of the Champlain Towers South condo on June 24, rescuers have recovered the remains of 24 people, with 121 still missing.
County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said on Sunday that the building and the surrounding areas were prepared for a safe demolition. The search-and-rescue mission was temporarily suspended but officials said the demolition will open up new areas for rescue teams to explore.
