The Miami Marlins' new City Connect jersey honors Latin America’s contribution to baseball’s rich history

Nike and MLB really turned heads in April when they dropped the first of several City Connect jerseys making their debut this season. The first capsule paid homage to Boston and the bond between club and city. The second iteration turns its focus to Miami, specifically Latin America’s contribution to baseball’s history.

In the release, Nike recognized the 1959 Cuban Sugar Kings’ Junior World Series championship. Their accomplishment helped open the door for future Latin American baseball players in the majors.

The jersey’s vibrant red color pays tribute to the energetic atmosphere and culture of Latin American nations, fusing old school character with the bold confidence of the hometown side, the Marlins.

The past, present and future combine on the jersey’s chest, “Miami” is featured utilizing the hand-painted style of the city's Little Havana neighborhood residents and tourists alike both frequently visit. On the right sleeve, a reimagined Sugar Kings’ patch finishes the impeccable construction and modernizes the entire look.
