Miami Grand Prix 2024 LIVE! F1 result and updates as Lando Norris wins
McLaren's Lando Norris capitalised on a bit of good fortune to win the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday, holding off Red Bull's triple world champion Max Verstappen for his first Formula One victory.
It was a long overdue win for the Briton who held the record for most podiums without a win (15), having finished runner-up an agonising eight times in 110 grand prix.
Verstappen had seemed well placed to claim a fifth win in six races until a midway crash allowed McLaren to cash in on a safety car period, with Norris pitting and coming out with the lead.
Dutchman Verstappen, seeking a Miami hat-trick of wins, filled Norris's mirrors on the restart but his Red Bull could offer no challenge as the McLaren pulled clear.
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc completed the podium, coming home third ahead of team mate Carlos Sainz.

How Lewis Hamilton could help create Ferrari dream team with Adrian Newey
20:30 , Jonathan Gorrie
There are two stark choices open to Adrian Newey.
One is to follow the lead of most of his fellow 65-year-olds and look towards retirement. The other is to answer Ferrari’s tempting call, with an initial third choice — a possible switch to Aston Martin — already appearing to have been dismissed.
The timing of Newey’s Red Bull exit would suggest he has one final throw of the dice in Formula One.
Red Bull could have held him to a lengthy gardening leave which would have seen him unable to join a team until the 2027 season. Instead, they have effectively allowed him to finish his pet project — the RB17 hypercar — and then head wherever he chooses come the spring of next year.

Smaller cars, 50/50 power and harder overtaking: Even Adrian Newey may struggle with F1's regulations for 2026
19:31 , Jonathan Gorrie
Should Adrian Newey, as expected, make the switch to Ferrari, he will have his work cut out getting his head around the new regulations for 2026.
While they have yet to be finalised, the first draft of the planned chassis overhaul is set to be put forward next month.
What has been known for some time concerns the engine rules, the changes enough to lure major manufacturers Audi (the F1 first-timers taking over Sauber) and Ford (back on the grid and going into partnership with Red Bull).
Here’s Matt Majendie on the problems potentially facing Newey!
Lewis Hamilton calls on Ferrari to snap up Adrian Newey after Red Bull exit
19:24 , Jonathan Gorrie
Lewis Hamilton has called on his new Ferrari employers to thrash out a deal to sign Adrian Newey, putting him No1 on his Formula One wishlist.
Newey announced on Thursday that he was ending his near two-decade association with Red Bull at the beginning of 2025. And Ferrari are believed to be his likely next destination if he chooses to stay in the sport.

Lewis Hamilton suffers sprint torment, Max Verstappen qualifies on pole
18:51 , Jonathan Gorrie
Max Verstappen doubled up with a sprint race win and qualifying success at the Miami Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton’s torment continued.
Lando Norris was dumped out of the sprint after a first-corner tangle instigated by Hamilton coming down the inside of both Aston Martins, which tipped the McLaren into the run-off area.
Daniel Ricciardo had qualified a surprise third for the second sprint of the F1 season but was quickly reeled in by Sergio Perez before fighting off Carlos Sainz and Oscar Piastri to earn five valuable points.
Verstappen complained of tyre degradation but rolled home by maintaining a healthy two-second lead over Charles Leclerc.
