KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — As popularity of the movie Barbie continues to rise, funeral homes in Mexico are banking on it by creating pink coloured coffins.

The homes, according to NY Post, are offering hot pink Barbie-themed coffins for fans, who hope to take their love for the popular Mattel doll to the grave.

“This coffin, with its striking bright pink color, represents the spark and energy of those unforgettable moments they lived,” a promotional clip for the vibrant casket said.

“It is a reminder that our stories deserve to be remembered and celebrated with color and vibrancy. May this tribute be a celebration full of love, colours and unforgettable memories.”

One of the companies, Olivares Funeral Home, promotes their “Barbie House” coffin with the slogan: “So you can rest like Barbie.”

A funeral home in Ahuachapán, El Salvador — Alpha and Omega Funeral Home — was ahead of its time when they launched the coffins in the trendy hue last year.

Their undertaker Isaac Villegas reportedly said that interest in the bright-coloured model only soared after the movie was released.

To encourage sales, the home also offered a 30 percent discount for anyone interested.

“We wanted to promote the pink coffin as it has become a trend and people have been contacting us. Of the 40 people who inquired about it, we have already closed a contract with at least 10 new clients,” Villegas said, adding that they had since run out of stock.

Following its release last month, the movie starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken has grossed over US$811 million (RM3.7 billion) worldwide, becoming the third-highest grossing film of 2023.
