Met Gala 2024 Red Carpet Photos: The Best Celebrity Looks
The 2024 Met Gala is live and the fashion is in full bloom.
Anna Wintour’s co-chairs for the evening are Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth. This will be Hemsworth’s first time attending the ball, while the other three co-chairs have participated in previous years. The theme of “The Garden of Time” is drawn from J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name. The garden party theme is already in full bloom as the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s stairway is adorned with hundreds of fake flowers. This gala complements the Met’s current exhibit, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.”

The Met Gala has a long history of delivering shocking fashion moments. Last year for the “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” tribute theme, Lil Nas X, Doja Cat and Jared Leto all arrived in feline-inspired ensembles inspired by Lagerfeld’s beloved cat Choupette. Fully committing to the bit, Doja Cat replied to any and all questions from the press with meows, purrs and hisses. Full gallery of last year’s looks here.
In 2022 Kim Kardashian courted controversy after appearing in Marilyn Monroe’s iconic sparkly dress, which she wore while singing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy in 1962. The drama proved to be unfounded as the reality TV star and entrepreneur slipped into a replica to enjoy the evening, lest there be any damage. Kardashian would later appear in yet another historical Monroe dress for the afterparty, her Golden Globes dress from 1962 complete with Monroe’s actual Globe trophy.
The most theatrical Met Gala year was, naturally, the 2019 Camp theme. Past Met Gala host Lady Gaga stripped through four separate outfits on the big, pink carpet. Zendaya arrived as Cinderella accompanied by her stylist, Law Roach, who dressed as her Fairy Godmother, complete with a wand that lit her whole dress! Inspired by Diana Ross’s “Mahogany,” Billy Porter was carried in by six shirtless men dripping in gold, accessorized by a pair of giant wings. And, of course, who could forget Katy Perry’s after-party cheeseburger which will live on forever in the annals of fashion history.
In addition, do not sleep on the also-dreamy “Heavenly Bodies” concept from 2018 which included Lana del Rey with a bird headdress and Rihanna in Pope-chic. Clearly, the 2024 Met Gala has a lot to live up to.
