Trends come and go, but makeup that enhances your natural beauty will never go out of style. As someone in their late 30s, my makeup routine has changed over the years. Before I became a mom I had endless amounts of time to sit and primp myself at the mirror to put on a full beat for a day at the office. Now, if I’m lucky I have 15 minutes to get ready and look fresh-faced and confident for my day. Over time, one brand has completely taken over my makeup kit: Merit.

In the three years since it was founded, Merit has quickly become the go-to brand for minimalist, well-edited products that are easy-to-use and essentially, foolproof. Merit's popularity spans across decades. It's not the "it girl" makeup, it's "it woman" makeup. The brand includes women of all ages in its marketing campaigns and has become a go-to for celebrities like Hilary Duff, Martha Stewart, Lily Collins, Cameron Diaz, Sarah Jessica Parker and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Merit rarely has sales — so when they do it's a great time to stock up. And while the brand's Black Friday deals don't officially kick off until Monday, Nov. 25 — Yahoo Canada readers can save 20 per cent on their orders right now with the code EAYAHOOCA.

I've been using Merit products since the brand launched.

I've been using Merit products since the brand launched. Products used: The Minimalist in Cream and Bone, Bronze Balm in Clay (cheeks and as eyeshadow), Cheeky Flush Balm Signature Lip in Maison Brow 1980 in Soft Black. (All products were purchased by the editor).

I've been using Merit products for almost three years. Keep reading to see some of my favourites that deserve a spot in your makeup kit.

Consider the Minimalist the staple of the Merit beauty routine. This multi-purpose product takes on the role of both foundation and concealer to deliver light-to-medium buildable coverage. It's available in 30 shades and contains fatty acids to help your skin look and feel hydrated.

Although there are sea daffodil extracts to help reduce the appearance of dark spots, I will add additional concealer (from another brand) when my melasma is particularly noticeable.

This super-blendable cream formula can add definition and colour to your skin without looking streaky or cakey.

I’ve been using Bronze Balm in Clay as both a bronzer, contour stick and eyeshadow and love that I never feel like I’m wearing a ton of makeup.

It’s available in five shades, and blends out perfectly with a brush or your fingers in a pinch.

I collect Merit Flush Balms like Pokémon cards. These compact pods blend out super sheer while delivering buildable coverage in nine versatile shades. While some people like to apply the balm directly to their cheeks, I like to apply it to my hand and then pick up colour with a brush. I find it's not only more hygienic (be careful of germs!) but I can also use some of the balm as eyeshadow, too!

It's impossible to pick an unflattering shade of lipstick from Merit. The brand offers an array of matte and satin finishes that are practical and require minimal touch up. If anything, they look better as you wear them since they look more natural.

My favourite shades are Slip, a warm natural that's perfect for everyday wear, and Maison, a berry shade that adds a pop of colour that feels luxe and elegant.

My eyebrows always need to be filled in — even if I only have five minutes to do my makeup. People have strong opinions on how they prefer their brows, but I like mine dark and fluffy. Merit's Volumizing Pomade is a great on its own, or as the finishing step in your brow routine. It's not the same as brow glue, so they won't look super manicured brow look, just your natural brow but better,

Great skin sets the stage for great makeup, but it can be difficult to know what skincare products work with certain skincare formulas. For a brand that has minimal product line, they have two skincare products that help take the guesswork out of skin prep, including the Instant Glow Serum, a luxe hydrating serum that plumps and brightens the skin.

Even though I'm a fan of matte lipsticks, I enjoy a good lip oil from time to time. Merit's collection of 12 lip oils deliver colour and shine in colours that are flattering for all skin colours. They're great on their own or as a topper to your favourite lip colour.
