Meri Brown is providing an update on how Janelle and Kody Brown are doing after the death of their son Garrison earlier this year.

On Monday’s episode of Miss Understood Podcast, Meri discussed how the family is coping with the death of her former sister wife’s son and revealed that grief is a long road for Kody and Janelle.

“I think there's good days and bad days, I don't know how there couldn't be,” Meri said. “There's still times where I'll see a picture of Garrison and I'm like, ‘Oh, I don’t like that this happened. It’s really sad.’”

Garrison was found dead in his home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in Flagstaff, Arizona on March 5. Following the news, Janelle confirmed her son's death in a statement shared to Instagram. Meri shared that she has lost three of her siblings — and two of them passed away when her mom was still alive — so she understands what Janelle is going through.

“I just feel so much for Janelle — I watched my mom lose two of her own kids before she passed,” she said, adding, “It’s tragic.”

While Meri said grief is “different for every situation,” she can offer Janelle and Kody the advice she has taken herself after losses of loved ones.

“You really have to do what you need to do at the moment,” she explained. “Embrace the pain, cry when you need to, spend time alone and when you're feeling ok, get up and take a walk.”

Even when the sadness begins to fade, Meri said it will creep back in when you least expect it, explaining, “I think a lot of times people have a box that we think we should live in. Grief, it's not linear — it's not a checklist. It's all the emotions all the time and whenever they decide to pop up.”

Meri also shared she knows from experience that life will eventually provide happiness and fulfillment again, but the love for the person who is gone will never be able to be replaced.

“I think that a lot of people will say, ‘You're gonna move past it, you're gonna move through it,’” she said. “And you will, but I think that there's this hole that is created and people will say that hole will fill up, but the hole will always be there.”
