KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 — Durian lovers rejoice!

Thanks to durian sellers Khairul Fahmy and Khairul Nizam, the Menu Rahmah is now extended to durian, enabling customers to indulge on durian on a small budget.

The two brothers and their dad decided to support the meal programme recently launched by the government by giving it their own durian twist.

“Durian is a coveted specialty,” says Khairul Fahmy or Fahmy as he is known.

“By selling durian at the Rahmah menu price of RM4.99 per container, everyone including those from the low-income group can also have the chance to feast on durian.”

It was dad Md Yasin Arsad who insisted that they didn’t sell durian at exorbitant prices because not everyone can afford it.

Since they started their Menu Rahmah durian last Friday, response has been overwhelming.

An impressive 650 containers were sold yesterday and 600 were sold the day before.

And they still managed to make a profit.

“It might be hard for food vendors to make good returns on their capital on a Menu Rahmah but we can because our volume of sales is big.

“Let’s say we make a profit of only RM1.50 per container but multiply that with 600, then you see what I mean.”

Kampung durians (village durians), kampung hybrids and durian tembaga (copper durians) make up the durians on their menu.

A RM4.99 container could hold one of these varieties or a combination.

Premium priced durians such as Musang King, D24 and Udang Merah are also available at his shop.

“A good supplier is key,” said Fahmy, who started selling durians four years ago.

“I don’t choose the durians, my supplier gives me what I want.”

Customers who want their durians delivered can do so via Lalamove.

“I’ve had customers from Kajang and Bangi who paid RM35 for delivery for RM20 worth of durians. I guess when you want it, you want it.”

Their Menu Rahmah also has durian cendol which costs only RM4.00.

Durians Atok is open daily from 12.30pm to 10.30pm and is located at Jalan Kebun, Kampung Batu 7, Section 30, Shah Alam.
