The Mehdi Hasan Show Ending at MSNBC Amid Weekend Schedule Overhaul
MSNBC is giving its weekend lineup a major overhaul, which will include the end of Sunday-night program The Mehdi Hasan Show, TVLine has confirmed.
Hasan’s series, which initially launched on Peacock in 2020 and later joined the MSNBC lineup in February 2021, found Hasan providing analysis and interviews that reflected on the day’s events. Ayman Mohyeldin, who is already a fixture of MSNBC’s weekend schedule, will take over for Hasan, expanding to four hours of programming on Saturdays and Sundays.

Hasan, meanwhile, will remain at the network as a political analyst and fill-in host. Yasmin Vossoughian, who currently anchors the weekend series Yasmin Vossoughian Reports, will also exit her current time slot and shift to a national reporter and fill-in host role; Alex Witt will take over Vossoughian’s hour, expanding Alex Witt Reports to a three-hour block on Saturdays and Sundays.
MSNBC also announced on Thursday that it has added panel show The Weekend to its lineup as the 2024 election approaches. Hosted by Alicia Menendez, Symone Sanders-Townsend and Michael Steele, The Weekend will premiere Saturday, Jan. 13, and will air Saturdays and Sundays from 8 to 10 am ET. Per MSNBC’s announcement, the series “will deliver in-depth commentary and thought-provoking conversations on the state of democracy” and will feature “interviews with newsmakers, including reporters, thought leaders and politicians.”
Among the network’s other weekend shake-ups: Jonathan Capehart, who currently anchors at 9 am ET on weekends, will shift to the 6 pm time slot, while Katie Phang (currently appearing at 8 am) will move to 12 pm on Saturdays.
“As we emerge from a multitude of historic events these past months, we have an opportunity to build on our accomplishments and keep the momentum going into 2024 and beyond,” MSNBC President Rashida Jones said in a memo to staff on Thursday. “These changes build upon the excellent foundation of the MSNBC brand across our portfolio. I can’t thank you enough for your commitment and dedication this season.”
