Meghan McCain isn’t too worried about Donald Trump’s latest criticisms of her and her father, the late Senator John McCain. In fact, the former co-host of “The View” is pretty pleased with the attention Trump may have inadvertently put on her new book “Bad Republican.”
“I mean my first reaction was ‘Thanks for the publicity,'” McCain told Howard Kurtz on Fox News Channel’s “Media Buzz” on Sunday. “Because he really has a way of helping people get publicity for their books. And I also think, this is part of what my memoir’s about. It’s about being a bad republican at ‘The View,’ when just being a Republican in general means that you’re a villain at ‘The View.’ And then it means me being a bad republican in the Republican party right now, because I’m not a Trump supporter.”
The former, twice-impeached president released a scathing statement about McCain Friday, calling her a “bully” and “lowlife,” weaving in some insults about her father.
“Isn’t it funny that Meghan McCain, who has always been a bully and basically a lowlife, is now complaining that it was she who was bullied by the Slobs and Radical Left maniacs of ‘The View,’” Trump said in the emailed statement. When Kurtz asked for her reaction on air, McCain simply laughed as it was read back to her.
She added that her family and Trump, basically, “have a blood feud at this point,” but generally speaking, his words — and most criticisms of her — don’t phase her in the least.
“I’m used to it,” she said. “It used to hurt when it was against my dad, and I don’t like it when it’s things against Colin Powell and, you know, people that I respect. But for me, no… I was laughing in the car with my husband.”
