Let’s just say it’s the perfect fall look.
It’s Halloweekend! And wow, spooky season — which basically starts in August if you base it off of Target’s aisles — really did fly by in the blink of an eye. I don’t know about you, but I haven’t even gotten my full fix of scary movies just yet, so I don’t feel super in the Halloween mood. But, that’s exactly what I’ll be doing this weekend (ahem, indulging in spine-chilling films), because it’s really time to get those witchy vibrations up — with a full moon happening on Saturday, FYI!
But, it seems like I don’t need to wait until the weekend to get in some witchy vibes. All it took was a look at Meg Ryan’s latest outfit, which offered a lesson in simple fall dressing. Her ensemble is cute! It’s simple! And it offers just the right amount of mystery that onlookers might think, “Hmm, this person’s quietly cool, and I want to be their friend.” Because TBH, that’s exactly what I thought when I saw Ryan.
The actress, who I, along with the rest of the internet, have deemed the inventor of fall — for the simple fact that she's in a myriad of quintessential fall-time movies wearing an array of quintessential autumnal outfits — just proved that, even when off screen, she knows how to create the ideal fall look. Ryan was photographed arriving on the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live! wearing an easygoing look that consisted of a black midi dress and black boots. Yes, it sounds simple, and it was, but the impact was anything but.

Ryan’s dress of choice featured a big, bold collar, which gave off subtle Wednesday Addams vibes, further adding to its spooky appeal. It had a fitted waist with a flowy, A-line skirt, plus a practical front-zipper that not only makes it incredibly easy to put on and take off, but also grunged up the otherwise unfussy number with some contrasting silver hardware.
But it wasn’t only the dress that oozed Halloweekend — those boots are about as hardcore as footwear gets. Combat boots are a classic fall staple (and they have been that for years), but Ryan’s offer a fresh spin on the trusty silhouette, with cutout sides and XXL buckles that are cool but also practical, in that they’re adjustable so you can find the perfect fit for you.
Boots and dresses aren’t a new combo, but doing it the way Ryan did feels witchy and cool — and that’s the vibe I'm going for right now. Shop dresses and boots inspired by the actress’ look below.
