Meet 3 Couples Who Got Engaged at Taylor Swift Concert During 'Love Story' Performance (Exclusive)
"I mean, Taylor was right there, as he was there on one knee, she was serenading the proposal," one soon-to-be bride says
Taylor Swift's Eras Tour has evolved into more than just a musical spectacle — it has also become a stage for real life love stories to unfold.
Since the tour began in March 2023, a number of individuals have embraced the opportunity to propose against the backdrop of Swift's show-stopping performances, with the song "Love Story" from the Grammy-winner's album Fearless becoming a particular favorite among love struck couples looking to pop the question.
One such couple, Carlos Ortega and Brazil-local Brenda Sánchez, shared a significant moment during the Eras Tour on Nov. 26, 2023, after more than three years of dating.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Ortega, 34, reveals that the idea to propose arose when Sánchez, 29, secured tickets for the concert in June 2023. "Knowing that she is a huge Swiftie, and having already discussed marriage, I was certain that proposing to her at the concert would be a memorable moment," Ortega said.
"I shared my plans with my immediate family — my parents and sister — as well as a few of my closest friends," he adds.
The biologist from Canada also shared how much he enjoyed picking out the ring and traveling to Brazil with it without Sánchez noticing.
He says, "I actually took two pictures of the ring next to her while she was sleeping: one on the airplane flying to São Paulo, and another one in bed the morning of the concert. It was a lot of fun, and I totally recommend it!"
When it came time for the proposal, Ortega handed out notes to the people sitting next to him and Sánchez at the concert.
"I'm going to propose to my girlfriend during 'Love Story,' can you help me with photos or videos," the note read. One obliging couple captured a video, which Ortega posted to TikTok. It has since gone viral.
"Brenda was very surprised and emotional, as you can see in the video ... She had no idea I was going to propose even though we had already spoken about marriage," he shares with PEOPLE.
But Ortega and Sánchez aren't the only couple who have gotten engaged during the pop star's concert tour.
On April 1, 2023, Dallas locals Shania Nichols and Kyle Cieplenski attended the tour at the AT&T Stadium. Nichols, 23, has been a Swiftie from the beginning, listening to her music and watching YouTube videos for as long as she can remember.
Nichols says she felt like she won the lottery when she scored floor seats very close to the stage. But she wasn't aware that the concert would include a major life milestone.
Cieplenski, 28, shares with PEOPLE that Swift was performing "Love Story" on their side of the stage, and Nichols was mesmerized by her idol singing just 20 feet away.
As Swift sang, "Romeo, save me. I've been feeling so alone. I keep waiting for you but you never come. Is this in my head? I don't know what to think," the future bride's brother, Andre, had to turn her body to face Cieplenski, ensuring she wouldn't miss the moment when her boyfriend pulled out a ring and said, "Marry me Juliet, you'll never have to be alone."
"I honestly thought he was kidding at first, I asked him three times if he was serious!" Nichols says. "I mean, Taylor was right there, as he was there on one knee, she was serenading the proposal."
For Allison Elrod and Zach Wilson, attending the Eras Tour on May 5, 2023, became an unforgettable experience, too. After almost three years together, during "Love Story," Wilson got down on one knee and asked Elrod to marry him. "I was very, very shocked. I was not expecting it, especially since we bought resold tickets at the last second. I was just happy enough to even be there as it was," Elrod tells PEOPLE.
They've already started planning their wedding, which will be in October 2025. Elrod says, of course, Swift's music will be playing throughout the whole day.
"We couldn’t be more excited to be married to each other! No other place I’d rather get engaged! It was definitely magical," she adds.
