You don't have to be royalty to stay in a castle. Thanks to Airbnb, you and your crew can put on your finest crowns and gowns and make your way to Bolton, New York. Here you'll be able to stay in Highlands Castle, which sits atop a mountain overlooking the glistening waters of Lake George.
We sent our resident Airbnb explorer-in-chief Kirby Porterfield to check out the royal castle located in upstate New York (you can watch her journey up above!). She gave the property a nine out of nine ancient French tapestry rating, a grading scale derived from the castle’s rich art.
Highlands Castle—which can either be booked from the official website, or from its Airbnb listing—is a hidden jewel nestled amongst the Adirondack Mountains. Guests will have access to almost the entire castle, including the entryway foyer, vestibule, the Great Hall, the music room/library, the kitchen, the dining room, the family room, the coat room, and more. The castle can accommodate up to eight guests.
Inside, guests will find medieval art throughout. Think: life-sized knight statues, Romeo and Juliet stained glass doors, gorgeous candelabras, Renaissance-style rugs, French oval-shaped doors, and even a few hidden doors that lead into secret rooms. You’ll instantly feel like you’ve been transported back into the 17oos. However surprisingly enough, the castle wasn’t built until the 1980s— a detail you’ll appreciate when you see the state-of-the-art kitchen.
Besides the castle's lush interiors, its location is spot-on for a fabulous stay. Highlands Castle is just a three minute drive from the charming downtown area of Bolton Landing, where guests can find a supermarket, gourmet restaurants, a brewery, antique stores, and more. There are also nearby public beaches, hiking/biking trails, and opportunities to go kayaking and canoeing, and more.
Highlands Castle is an ideal spot for a honeymoon, a vacation, birthday or anniversary celebration, proposal location, and more. You can book your stay here.
